In today's article I'm going to talk about how to use the most common style rack in your home. The most common form of rack that you will find with either be a wooden or metal DVD rack that is wall mounted or wall hung. The reason for that is because they offer the most versatility in not only how you use them, but where you can put them, and what capacities they hold. In terms of floor space, and space saving a wall hung DVD rack is the clear, hands down winner over the rest of the various forms of DVD storage furniture out there. A DVD storage cabinet may be too large for some people's needs and this becomes especially true if you are limited on the amount of floor space that you have available to you for use. It's for those reasons that we will focus in on the DVD rack as the means of storage that you should be using in your home.
Okay, now let's move on to beginning the process of finding out which is the best way for you to use your new DVD storage rack. The first step will be to take an inventory of your current home theater room and the furniture that is currently within it. You will want to look at all of the surfaces and determine for yourself if the room is dominated by a lot of vertical surfaces or if it seems to be overwhelmed by more horizontal surfaces. The reason for this is because you don't want your DVD rack to interrupt the flow of a rooms warmth, décor, or general feeling. So, once you have determined whether your home theater furniture is either vertical or horizontal dominated, you will have two choices to make. If your home is dominated by a lot of vertical standing surfaces, you will want your DVD racks to be oriented in the exact same way to maintain a solid look and flow in the room. If your furniture seems to be mostly horizontal in it's orientation, than you have a bit of freedom to select to have your DVD storage rack be in either a vertical or horizontal positions since horizontal surfaces are much more forgiving in how they interact with other shapes in the room.
That having been said, let's talk a bit about how you will want to space things out. The key purpose of owning a DVD rack to begin with is to help yourself organize the considerable investment that you have made in your digital media and DVD collection. So, the last thing that you will want to do is take two steps forward and one step back by getting the racks filled, but mounting them in such a way that makes everything appear less organized. Luckily for us, there has already been many case studies conducted in which there were some patterns developed that dictated the most beneficial spacing that you should aim to use when mounting your new DVD rack.
Fortunately for us, these rules boil down to some simple measurements that just about anyone can use to produce a clean installation and maintain an organized appearance for years to come. When hanging vertical racks, by sure to leave about four inches on either side of the rack. If you are hanging multiple racks next to each other, this distance shrinks to about 3 inches that you will want to leave in between the racks, or outer most edge of either the rack or the DVD, depending on which is further out. If you are hanging horizontal racks, you will want to leave about 10 inches in between the racks or roughly 4-6 inches between the bottom surface of the rack and the top of the highest surface on the rack or DVD case below it. This should arm you with all the information you need to know to begin constructing a layout for your new DVD rack!
